Various expensive equipments are needed to conduct advanced medical and life sciences research. The “Innovative Support Alliance for Life Sciences (iSAL)” was launched as an equipment support base at Kyoto University to help researchers in conducting cutting-edge research economically. The iSAL consists of five divisions, including the Graduate School of Medicine, the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Graduate School of Biostudies, the Institute for Life and Medical Sciences, and the Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Biology (ASHBi). It has established as an open common-access system that provides researchers within and outside of Kyoto University the access to advanced research equipment and facilities available in each division for allowing the shared use of equipments via a unique online system called KUMaCo (Kyoto University Management System for Core Facilities).
